This November, the attention of the Asia-Pacific turns to Shenzhen. For one week, the city becomes the meeting point for leaders, executives and policymakers from across the region, and for those travelling by way of Hong Kong, the border is part of the journey.<\/p>\n

From 13 to 19 November 2026, Shenzhen hosts APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. China is the host economy for the year, and the theme, unveiled at the APEC Informal Senior Officials’ Meeting in Shenzhen in December 2025, is “Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together”. The week has a clear shape. The Concluding Senior Officials’ Meeting (CSOM) takes place on 14 and 15 November. The fourth APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) meeting runs from 14 to 16 November. The APEC CEO Summit follows on 17 and 18 November, and the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting concludes the week on 18 and 19 November.<\/p>\n

For the business community, the CEO Summit is the centrepiece. It will be held at the Qianhai International Convention Centre in Nanshan District, and around 1,000 participants are expected. A welcome reception is scheduled for 16 November in the Taikoo Li (\u592a\u5b50\u7063) area of Nanshan.<\/p>\n

The agenda reflects where regional commerce is heading. Topics include regional trade and investment, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, clean energy, green finance, supply chains, connectivity and the development of the Greater Bay Area. For anyone whose business sits between Hong Kong and the mainland, that last item is not an abstraction. It is the daily reality of their work.<\/p>\n

The choice of host city is fitting. In the first half of 2026, Shenzhen’s trade with other APEC economies reached RMB 1.98 trillion, up 33 per cent year on year and equal to 68.8 per cent of the city’s total trade value, making Shenzhen the leading city in China for trade with other APEC economies. When the region’s leaders gather to discuss trade, they will be doing so in a city at the centre of it.<\/p>\n

The practicalities of a crowded week<\/h2>\n

A programme of this scale places its own demands on those attending. Over several days, delegates will move between meetings, receptions and private engagements, often with little slack between them. Anyone arriving through Hong Kong will want their journey to the summit to be as measured and predictable as the agenda itself. Hotels and airports tend to be busy during a week such as this, and a schedule built around fixed sessions leaves little room for improvisation. In those circumstances, good transport arrangements matter less for comfort than for composure: arriving on time, unhurried, and ready to work.<\/p>\n
